Interpersonal Behavior That Leads to Productive Relationships

We all know that “good” or “needed” communication skills are paramount when working with others. But most of us spend very little time actually strategizing how to present our ideas in a way that maximizes acceptance, or for that matter in presenting objections and disagreements in ways that actually lead to resolution and better results. How much time has any of us spent practicing communication skills to build trusting and meaningful work relationships?

Our interpersonal behavior can make or break our credibility and trustworthiness in the eyes of others. Our demeanor, tone, words and body language create perceptions in the eyes of others that allow them to make decisions on how to interact with us.

There is a cause and effect chain in this process: how we come across to others (our interpersonal behavior) creates perceptions in others; those perceptions define how others will (or will not) interact with us; work related interactions have results that affect the bottom line of the business you are in. The bottom line is here is that there is a huge amount riding on the way we interact with others.

As you participate in this workshop, you will:

  • Learn about barriers to effective communication

  • Improve ability to analyze situations that require interaction and collaboration

  • Determine what you and others need from interactions and understand what is at stake

  • Develop effective communication strategies for a variety of interpersonal situations

  • Gain valuable communication tools

  • Learn to make good task/relationship decisions

  • Practice communication skills

This workshop is highly interactive and each participant will have the opportunity to practice and apply the ideas, concepts and tools as presented. They will use their own real life examples (names changed for confidentiality) as they work through the activities and will leave with tools they created for immediate application back on the job.
